Wellbeing offer at Hasmonean Primary
Good mental health and wellbeing is extremely important to us at Hasmo Primary.
Suzi Jaeger is the Senior Mental Health Lead and has completed the senior mental health training. We have a Mental Health Plan in place which is reviewed termly. It consists of 8 principles which outlines the different ways we support children, their parents and carers and staff with mental health and wellbeing.
The school have recently received the Pajes Wellbeing Award.
Zones of Regulation
We use Zones of Regulation as a programme across the school to provide the children with an easy way to think and talk about how we feel on the inside and sorts emotions into 4 coloured zones all of which are expected in life. There is the Blue, Green, Yellow and Red zones.
Blob Trees
B
lob Trees is another tool we use to engage with children to see how they are feeling and what kind of day they are having. It is an effective way of expressing feelings and emotions with children.
Heads Up Pajes Programme
Heads Up is a Pajes social and emotional wellbeing programme which is currently being delivered weekly in Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3. The teachers who deliver the programme receive training and support from Pajes, whilst the programme is delivered to the children. The programme aims to support children to develop their emotional literacy skills.
Wellbeing in the classroom
As a school we aim to provide opportunities for children’s wellbeing to be supported in the classroom. New initiatives include:
- What went well boards- giving opportunities for the children to talk about positives in their week at school
- Incorporating more music in the classroom
- Class books to be enjoyed at the end of the day
- Wellbeing corners where children can regulate
Winnie the Therapy dog
We have a therapy dog that visits fortnightly. Winnie and Karen spend the afternoon with children who can talk to her, read to her and draw for her. Lots of the children ask to see Winnie and enjoy the time they can spend with her.
Wellbeing Room
We have a beautiful wellbeing room which children can access with the support of an adult. The wellbeing room is resourced with books, soft toys and se
veral resources which serve to make the wellbeing room a warm, inviting and safe space. Children can access the wellbeing room every lunchtime if they struggle at this time.
Wellbeing groups
We run wellbeing groups on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoon in the wellbeing room. The groups are made up of 6 children approximately and 2 adults plan the activities that take place. This includes emotional literacy activities, baking, turn taking games and arts and crafts. These groups are reviewed termly by the SENCo and staff who run it.
Lego Therapy groups
There are a few adults who are trained to run Lego therapy groups at Hasmo. We currently run 3 groups in our school over the week. Lego therapy is an evidence-based approach that aims to develop social communication skills in children such as sharing, turn-taking, following rules, using names and problem-solving.
Working with outside agencies
The school works with a number of outside agencies to support the mental health of our children.
We may refer to BICS (Barnet Integrated Clinical Services) which supports children and their families with low level anxiety, behavioural issues or CAMHS (Child Adolescent Mental Health Service) which supports more complex mental health issues and is the route for neuro diverse assessments.
We also work with art therapists and therapeutic art teachers who come into school to deliver sessions. We also work with psychotherapists who support children through play therapy.
BICS
Hello I’m Margaret from BICS.
We’re here to support the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children, young people, and families in Hasmonean Primary. Our work includes offering therapeutic support to parents and carers who want to learn how to support their child’s big feelings or behaviours. Referrals can be made using the Universal Plus form and through Mrs Jaeger directly.
We also host friendly coffee mornings and practical workshops throughout the academic year—and we’d love to hear from you about what topics you’d find most helpful or interesting.
I’ll be working closely with Mrs Jaeger to help promote a happy, healthy, and supportive environment for pupils, parents, and staff alike. Please feel free to reach out or say hello—I’m here to listen and support however I can.
