In Hasmonean we teach Ivrit from Reception to Year 6 with an aim to inspire love for the language and Israel from an early age. The language is taught once a week in a way that all children, including those with SEN, can access the curriculum. We are delighted that Hasmonean Primary School is working with a Shinshin from the Jewish Agency For Israel to enhance the opportunities for the children to develop their language skills.
The Ivrit curriculum includes graduated study units dealing with a variety of topics.
At Foundation Stage and KS1 we follow the Chalav U’Dvash programme. We focus on speaking and listening and children learn in a fun and interactive way mainly through songs, games, role-play and the use of flashcards. Children progressively build on their Ivrit skills.
In the KS2 curriculum we use the Ivrit Beclick scheme of work developed by Matach, The Centre for Educational Technology in Israel.
The Ivrit Beclick resource includes study units dealing with a variety of topics , each unit contains a short video clip, and the rest of the unit is made up of interactive activities and games, worksheets, flash cards, and other materials. The program helps children progress through the units in listening, speaking, reading and writing. As well as giving the children the opportunity to learn about the culture and way of life in Israel.
