At Hasmonean Primary School, we intend to give our pupils insight about the past. We want them to have interest and enthusiasm about what happened before to understand how different events have shaped our lives and to learn valuable lessons about the past that help us understand how we are living today. We want our children to understand their identity and to be instilled with wonder and curiosity about what preceded them.
Our curriculum from Nursery to Year 6 helps children to achieve the above. We have worked hard to create a curriculum that is interesting and challenging, which helps them learn valuable skills so they can understand historical events and compare and contrast different periods of history.
Taking into account our pupils interests was vital when devising the curriculum and our strands of Leadership, Homes/lifestyle and art and culture reflect the children’s and teachers passions when learning about different periods of time .
We have covered National Curriculum objectives and taken into account all of the above as well as engaging the children to understand the history of their local area which is Hendon and London.
