The Government provides primary school sport funding in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport in primary schools and Culture, Media & Sport, and will see money going directly to schools. As a school we are held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils progress and participation in PE and school sport. At Hasmonean Primary school we believe that Physical Education ( PE) is vital to the health and well-being of the pupils. We believe that a varied PE curriculum has a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our pupils.

2. What has been the impact of the funding?
High-quality PE lessons
The funding has supported the delivery of engaging and active PE lessons, with specialist coaching helping to develop pupils’ physical skills and enhance the quality of PE provision. The aim is to build confidence, promote enjoyment of physical activity and ensure pupils have opportunities to experience a wide range of sports and physical activities.
Lunchtime sports provision
Sports coaches provide additional opportunities for pupils to participate in physical activity during lunchtimes. This provision encourages children to try different sports, develop their skills and engage positively with their peers. Coaching also supports pupils involved in school teams and helps prepare them for competitive sporting opportunities.
Swimming and water safety
Swimming provision supports pupils in developing their swimming ability, water confidence and understanding of water safety. The school aims to ensure that pupils leave Year 6 with the essential swimming skills outlined in the national curriculum.
Competitive sport and tournaments
Participation in football, netball and other inter-school competitions gives pupils opportunities to represent Hasmonean Primary School, develop teamwork, demonstrate good sportsmanship and experience competitive sport.
Sports days
The school’s sports days provide opportunities for all pupils to take part in physical activity, develop skills in events such as throwing, athletics, hockey and football, and participate in inter-house competitions. These events promote inclusion, enjoyment, resilience and positive attitudes towards physical activity.
3. How has the funding supported the school’s wider aims?
The PE and Sport Premium supports Hasmonean Primary School’s commitment to providing a broad and balanced curriculum, in which physical education plays an important role in pupils’ health, wellbeing and personal development.
The school’s approach is to encourage every child to participate, develop confidence and experience success, regardless of ability or previous sporting experience.
