38% – 40% of our school day is dedicated to Jewish Studies.
Our daily Tefillos, from the earliest ‘Modeh Ani’ in the Nursery, to Shacharis and Minchah in KS2, create a familiarity with the davening. This enables the children to begin to express themselves spritually.
Chumash is central to our curriculum and by the end of Reception the children will have learnt to read. At this point Chumash Studies begin. Both reading and Chumash are taught in small groups in order to facilitate optimum achievement. Grammar and Vocabulary skills are the keys which unlock the text for our pupils, so that they can engage with the lives of our ancestors and absorb the moral and ethical lessons which are intrinsic to the Torah.
Mishna is taught to the boys in KS2 within the school day and Mishna and Gemorrah are both taught in extra-curricular classes.
Chagim, Dinim, Jewish History and Tefilla are all essential components of our LK curriculum. These, together with our many and varied informal Jewish activities, give our pupils a broad and balanced Jewish education.
The funding for the Jewish Studies staff and resources comes from voluntary parental contributions. With the help of these contributions, Hasmonean Primary is able to provide the very high standards of Jewish education of which we are so proud.
